{"id":427,"date":"2025-03-28T00:12:05","date_gmt":"2025-03-28T00:12:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/markwilkinson.ca\/pillar\/?p=427"},"modified":"2025-03-28T00:12:06","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T00:12:06","slug":"what-is-impossible-for-god-to-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markwilkinson.ca\/pillar\/2025\/03\/28\/what-is-impossible-for-god-to-do\/","title":{"rendered":"What Is Impossible For God To Do?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>\u201cWith God all things are possible.\u201d However, God&#8217;s character and attributes as well as how He designed everything sets boundaries which are logical and moral necessities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>God Cannot Sin or Be Evil:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>James 1:13 \u2013 \u201cWhen tempted, no one should say, \u2018God is tempting me.\u2019 For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 John 1:5 \u2013 \u201cGod is light; in him there is no darkness at all.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why: Holiness excludes sin\u2014lying, murder, envy, etc. God\u2019s moral perfection makes evil acts impossible, not because He lacks ability, but because they contradict His essence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>God Cannot Lie:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Numbers 23:19 \u2013 \u201cGod is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Titus 1:2 \u2013 \u201cIn the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hebrews 6:18 \u2013 \u201cIt is impossible for God to lie, so that we\u2026 have strong encouragement.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why: Truthfulness is intrinsic. Lying would violate His immutable, honest nature\u2014He\u2019d cease to be the God Scripture describes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>God Cannot Change His Nature:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Malachi 3:6 \u2013 \u201cI the Lord do not change.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why: Immutability means God can\u2019t become unholy, unjust, or less powerful. Change implies imperfection or inconsistency, which His eternal nature rejects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>God Cannot Deny Himself:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2 Timothy 2:13 \u2013 \u201cIf we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why: Self-consistency is core. Denying His own character (e.g., breaking a promise) would unravel His identity as the unchanging, faithful God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>God Cannot Be Unjust:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Romans 3:26 \u2013 \u201cHe did it to demonstrate his righteousness\u2026 so as to be just and the one who justifies.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why: Justice defines Him. Punishing the innocent without cause or sparing the guilty without atonement (e.g., Christ\u2019s sacrifice) would contradict His righteous standard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>God Cannot Cease to Exist:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Psalm 90:2 \u2013 \u201cFrom everlasting to everlasting you are God.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why: Omnipresence and eternity mean God\u2019s existence is self-sustaining. \u201cNot existing\u201d isn\u2019t a limit\u2014it\u2019s incoherent with His eternal attribute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>God Cannot Do Logical Contradictions:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No direct verse, but implied by orderliness (e.g., 1 Corinthians 14:33 \u2013 \u201cGod is not a God of disorder\u201d).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Example: Can God make a square circle or a rock too heavy to lift? These aren\u2019t \u201cthings\u201d but paradoxes\u2014nonsense within a rational creation He designed.
