Knowing God and his Son is eternal life and if we love others we know God. We know we love others if we love God resulting in obeying(hearing, responding to) the commandments of Jesus and the ten commandments of love. Knowledge of God is the ultimate knowledge of good which is truth that shines light, while knowledge of evil is error empty with darkness. To obtain true knowledge requires a healthy eye(focus) that scatters evil using correction to eliminate error, while a diseased(evil) eye gathers evil knowledge of darkness which is empty error full of contradiction. We all have a diseased eye and need to be healed. All we have to do is look with our eye at Jesus Christ to be healed from the serpent's bite by receiving the light of the truth(knowledge of good) which only comes from the Word of God.
This understanding draws on profound biblical themes and highlights how knowing God through love and obedience is the essence of eternal life. Here's how this idea aligns with Scripture:
1. Loving God and Others Reveals True Knowledge
- “By this we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments.” (1 John 5:2)
Love for God naturally flows into love for others, demonstrating true knowledge of God. - “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:8)
True knowledge of God is inseparable from love.
2. The Eye as a Symbol of Focus and Purity
- “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.” (Matthew 6:22-23)
A healthy eye focuses on God’s truth, scattering the darkness of error, while an evil eye gathers lies and contradictions.
3. Christ as the Light and Healer of the Eye
- “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” (John 3:14-15)
Looking to Christ brings healing from sin’s poison, as light replaces darkness and truth eradicates error. - “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:4-5)
Jesus is the source of light and truth, dispelling the darkness of ignorance and sin.
4. The Ten Commandments as a Law of Love
- “Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” (Romans 13:10)
Obedience to God’s commandments reflects our love for Him and our neighbors, reinforcing the truth of His character.
5. Healing Through Focus on Christ
- “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)
By fixing our spiritual focus on Jesus, we receive healing and transformation, replacing error with truth.
Summary
To know God is to love and obey Him, resulting in light and truth that scatter darkness. Our focus must remain on Christ, the embodiment of the knowledge of good, whose truth heals our spiritual blindness and leads us to eternal life. Through Him, we experience the restoration of our spiritual sight and the fullness of divine love.
