The Bible provides numerous lists and descriptions of sins that we are to repent from. Below is a comprehensive list of sins based on various passages in both the Old and New Testaments, categorized for clarity.


1. Sins Against God

Idolatry – Worshiping anything other than the one true God. (Exodus 20:3-6, 1 Corinthians 10:14)
Blasphemy – Using God's name in vain or speaking irreverently about Him. (Leviticus 24:16, Matthew 12:31-32)
Taking the Lord’s Name in Vain – Using God's name carelessly. (Exodus 20:7)
Denying Christ – Rejecting Jesus as Lord and Savior. (Matthew 10:33, 1 John 2:22-23)
Unbelief – Refusing to trust in God's promises. (John 3:18, Hebrews 11:6)
Lukewarmness – Being neither fully devoted nor fully rejecting God. (Revelation 3:15-16)
Hypocrisy – Pretending to be righteous while living in sin. (Matthew 23:27-28, Luke 12:1)
False Doctrine – Teaching or believing things that contradict Scripture. (Galatians 1:8-9, 2 Peter 2:1)
Self-Righteousness – Trusting in one's own goodness instead of God's grace. (Luke 18:9-14)

2. Sins Against Ourselves

Pride – Exalting oneself above others and God. (Proverbs 16:18, James 4:6)
Selfishness – Prioritizing personal gain over God and others. (Philippians 2:3-4, 2 Timothy 3:2)
Gluttony – Excessive indulgence in food, drink, or pleasure. (Proverbs 23:20-21, Philippians 3:19)
Laziness (Sloth) – Refusing to work or be diligent. (Proverbs 6:6-11, 2 Thessalonians 3:10)
Drunkenness – Overindulgence in alcohol or substances. (Galatians 5:21, Ephesians 5:18)
Sorcery (Drug Use / Occultism) – Using drugs (pharmakeia) or engaging in occult practices. (Revelation 21:8, Galatians 5:20)
Envy & Jealousy – Desiring what others have. (Exodus 20:17, Galatians 5:21)
Covetousness – Greedy desire for wealth or possessions. (Luke 12:15, Colossians 3:5)
Love of Money – Making wealth an idol. (1 Timothy 6:10, Matthew 6:24)
Fearfulness (Faithlessness) – Letting fear rule instead of faith. (Revelation 21:8, 2 Timothy 1:7)
Worldliness – Loving worldly things more than God. (1 John 2:15-17, Romans 12:2)


3. Sins Against Others

Hatred – Strong resentment against others. (1 John 3:15, Galatians 5:20)
Murder – Killing or harboring murderous thoughts. (Exodus 20:13, Matthew 5:21-22)
Violence – Harming others physically or emotionally. (Proverbs 3:31, Genesis 6:11)
Strife & Quarreling – Causing unnecessary arguments. (Proverbs 6:16-19, Romans 13:13)
Unforgiveness – Refusing to forgive others. (Matthew 6:14-15, Ephesians 4:31-32)
Slander & Gossip – Spreading false or harmful information. (Proverbs 10:18, James 4:11)
Lying & Deception – Speaking falsehoods or misleading others. (Proverbs 12:22, Colossians 3:9)
Theft – Stealing or taking what is not yours. (Exodus 20:15, Ephesians 4:28)
Fraud & Dishonesty – Unfair dealings for personal gain. (Proverbs 11:1, Leviticus 19:11-13)
Oppressing the Poor – Exploiting the weak or disadvantaged. (Proverbs 14:31, James 2:6-7)
Injustice – Failing to act righteously toward others. (Micah 6:8, Isaiah 10:1-2)
Revenge – Seeking to harm those who wronged you. (Romans 12:19, Matthew 5:39)


4. Sexual Sins

Adultery – Sexual relations outside of marriage. (Exodus 20:14, Hebrews 13:4)
Fornication (Sex Outside Marriage) – Any sexual activity outside biblical marriage. (1 Corinthians 6:18, Galatians 5:19)
Homosexuality – Sexual relations between the same sex. (Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-27)
Pornography & Lust – Sexual desire outside of marriage. (Matthew 5:28, Job 31:1)
Prostitution – Selling or engaging in sexual acts for money. (Deuteronomy 23:17-18, 1 Corinthians 6:15-16)
Rape & Sexual Abuse – Any forced or exploitative sexual act. (Deuteronomy 22:25-27)
Incest – Sexual relations with close relatives. (Leviticus 18:6-18)
Bestiality – Sexual relations with animals. (Leviticus 18:23)


5. Sins of Speech

Lying – Speaking falsehoods. (Proverbs 6:16-19, Colossians 3:9)
Blasphemy – Speaking against God. (Exodus 20:7, Matthew 12:31-32)
Cursing & Swearing – Speaking foul or hateful language. (Ephesians 4:29, James 3:9-10)

6. Sins of the Heart

Bitterness – Holding grudges. (Ephesians 4:31, Hebrews 12:15)

7. Sins of Neglect

Failure to Love God and Others – The greatest commandment. (Matthew 22:37-40)
Ignoring the Needy – Not helping those in need. (Matthew 25:42-45)
Not Praying or Studying Scripture – Neglecting a relationship with God. (1 Thessalonians 5:17, Joshua 1:8)
